Retired Justice Mary Maitum is a Member of the Elders Forum of Uganda, Chairperson of the Busitema University Staff Tribunal, Member of the Board of the Human Rights Centre, Uganda and a Life Member of the Uganda Bible Society.

She is a former member of the Electoral Commission, Constitutional Commission and the Police Authority. She was previously the Chairperson of the National Community Service Committee (Ministry of Internal Affairs), Deputy Chairperson of Makerere University Council and a Principal Lecturer at the Law Development Centre in 7ampala. She is also a Founder Member of Finance Trust Bank where she was a Board member for nine (9) years.

Justice Mary Maitum was the Chairperson of the Association of Women Lawyers (FIDA) and the National Coordinator of the Constitutional Assembly Project for ensuring that women’s equality provisions were maintained during the debates on the Uganda Constitution of 1995. She was one of the Ugandan Delegates to the United Nations’ Third Committee and made two Statements on Human Rights and Children’s Rights in Uganda. She was also Chairperson of the Constitutional Review Committee for Uganda Joint Christian Council (UJCC) and an Eminent Woman of the Women’s Situation Room for African elections in Uganda in 2016 and 2021.
