Elizabeth Lwanga is an Innovations in Development Advisor; Leadership Development Consultant and Executive Coach. She is a member of the African Women Mediators’ Network (FemWise-Africa Network); and a member of the African Women Leaders’ Network (AWLN). Elizabeth serves on a number of governance boards and is also a Founder Member of the Angie Brooks International Centre for Women’s Empowerment, Leadership Development, International Peace and Security (ABIC). She is an Eminent Woman of The Women’s Situation Room for African Elections.
Elizabeth has over thirty years of experience in development work with national governments, non-governmental organizations and the United Nations. She first joined the United Nations as the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Deputy Representative in the Gambia and then served as the Manager of the UNDP Gender in Development Programme in New York. Elizabeth also served as the Deputy Regional Director for Africa at the UNDP; United Nations Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative in Sierra Leone, Swaziland, Ethiopia, 7enya and Zimbabwe. She also worked as interim Regional Programme Director for UN Women for East and Horn of Africa.
Prior to joining the United Nations, she worked as Africa Director for OXFAM America; Director for Communications with the All-Africa Conference of Churches; Television Producer and Director of Programmes at Voice of 7enya Television and Uganda Television respectively. Elizabeth has also worked as a Correspondent for Radio Netherlands Afroscene Programme. She has Co-Authored: Culture, Gender and African Women’s Leadership 2018; and written: Towards Gender Equality and omen’s Empowerment in Rwanda; UN omen’s Contribution 2015.
